At Oakhill Primary Academy, we take our role very seriously and pride ourselves on welcoming children into our fantastic school. We warmly encourage you to come and visit us so that we can show you what happens in our school, day to day, and answer any questions you may have.
Nursery places
Is your child beginning Nursery during 2024/25?
Your child is entitled to free Nursery education (15 hours per week) from the term after their third birthday – admission is typically in September, January and April each year. If your child is ready to start Nursery, please contact Admissions and complete the application form. We would be happy to welcome you into Nursery for a visit to see for yourself how wonderful Nursery provision at Oakhill Primary Academy is – contact us to arrange a visit!
We also offer 30 hours provision for those families who are eligible for the additional hours. To check your eligibility and for more information, visit the DfE website or contact us and let us help you to secure your child’s place.
Reception Class places
Is your child starting school during 2025/26?
Before you apply for your child a place, please look at the information booklet.
- If your child was born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, they’ll be ready to start school in September 2025.
- If your child was born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022, they’ll be ready to start school in September 2026.
How to apply for a place in Barnsley
Our published admissions number (PAN) is 45.
For your child to start primary school in September, you need to apply for a place before the deadline of 15 January. Here is how you apply:
Apply online for your child to start primary school (up to the deadline). Visit the Barnsley Admissions website to complete the form. If you are having issues applying online, then contact Admissions who will send you a paper application form and return it to School Admissions, PO Box 634, Barnsley S70 9GG.
If you have not yet applied for a place and have missed the deadline, please contact School Admission where colleagues will be happy to guide you in accessing a school place.

How to apply for a secondary school place for September 2025
If your child was born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014, you can apply in September 2024 for a place at secondary school for the academic year starting September 2025.

If we are full?
If you wish for your child to attend Oakhill and we are currently full in that class, don’t worry. You can appeal to an independent appeal panel. To do this, you have to complete a Notice of Appeal form, and return it to School Admissions.
Appeals will be held between May and July. We have to comply with infant class size legislation and this may determine the type of appeal.
